Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be assessed with the ADOS-2 assessment?

Children aged 18 months - 18 years of age

Adult assessments (18 years +) are available as well. Please note the diagnostic process may differ
Children who have significant motor, visual or hearing delays could need alternative assessments

Will we leave our appointment with a diagnosis?

No. The ADOS-2 is one component of receiving a diagnosis. The results of the ADOS-2 have to be interpreted by a medical provider who can provide a medical diagnosis (developmental pediatrician, neurologist, psychologist).

How long will the assessment process take?

The assessment lasts approximately 45 min- 1.5 hours depending on the child's age and participation. Results will be scored and a results summary will be submitted to the medical provider chosen by the family (we can support with this process as well) for interpretation. The family will schedule a follow up appointment with that medical provider to receive their final diagnostic decision and next steps for treatment.

What training topics are available?

Training topics for families and businesses can be catered to the specific needs of the group ranging from basic ABA principles that can be utilized in various settings, behavior management tactics and caregiver communication skills. These services can be great for those who work directly with children through schools and clinics. We are happy to discuss the needs of your group!

Can I share a community resource?

Yes! We would love to hear about any local community events, resources or support groups that we can share with others. Email us at asturgeon@shinefamilyservices.com

I need help with behaviors at home. Can you help?

YES! We offer virtual and in-home support to empower YOU as your child's caregiver to implement strategies at home to improve your child's challenging behaviors, teach replacement behaviors and increase the peace in your home!

How long does toilet training take?

All results are individual; however, with our research-based and individualized toilet training bundles, most families experience toileting success (including staying dry and self-initiations) within 2 weeks or less!

By collaborating with local neurologists, physicians and clinics, my goal is to provide the necessary assessments required for a medical diagnosis of autism and access to resources. We want to shine a light on what can be a lonely and confusing process for families and provide them with hope and guidance for the future. We are so excited to serve our local community and to be a small part of your child's incredible journey!
