For those who live every day in the world of autism, autism acceptance and awareness don't end on April 30th and it shouldn't for the rest of us either. Autism is and continues to be woven in the fabrics of our families and communities in various ways and we should always strive for better understanding, higher quality of care and greater access to resources.
This month we focused on why we have shifted our focus from AWARENESS to ACCEPTANCE.
We also highlighted common therapy options that are often recommended with an autism diagnosis including Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Another big focus of this month is YOU. The caregiver, parent, sibling, or friend navigating the world of autism alongside your child and giving yourself permission to take care of yourself mentally, physically and emotionally. We shared some great local resources including our first ever Special Moms Meet Up at Homebrew Coffeeshop and Eatery! We are excited to plan the next one!

Lastly, and most importantly, we highlighted the importance of seeking necessary assessments as soon as possible and accessing early intervention right away. We highlighted the "Shine Difference" in wait times and guidance when it comes to the diagnostic process and discussed why "Wait and see" is usually more harmful than helpful.

Here's to many more months and years of learning, growing and shining a light on our community! I'm so glad you are here. - Anna
