Hi Everyone! I hope you have had a wonderful week. A lot has been going on behind the scenes at Shine Behavior Services and I am so excited to share some new updates to our services!
Throughout my years as a BCBA, whether working in ABA clinics, schools or in my own private practice there has always been a common denominator for families. Every family I've worked with have craved information. Information regarding their child's diagnosis, information regarding the therapy choices they were presented with and information regarding their child's progress.
SO many families echoed the same sentiments -

"I was handed a piece of paper with a diagnosis on it and a few recommendations for therapies. I have NO idea what to do next."
"What is ABA? What does it accomplish? How do I know which program to choose?"
"What is the difference between speech therapy, occupational therapy and ABA? Do we need all 3?"
"Google searching has made me more fearful and less confident. I just want some guidance."
The true passion behind Shine has always been rooted in supporting the family throughout their autism journey - not just through the diagnostic process but beyond - supporting families as they navigate diffucult choices and try to do what is best for their child and family.
For the past few months we have been trying out new ways to offer a variety of support options for families while maintaining compassionate, individualized care and affordable options. The results have been so encouraging and have helped to develop future ideas as well!
I am excited to announce these updated options to support YOUR family!
The ADOS-2 Consultation
While not a new service, I wanted to highlight that a free 15 minute consult will always be available (and encouraged) prior to booking an autism evaluation with Shine.
A few reminders:
Autism evaluations are availalbe to children ages 15 months - 17 years
A referral from a physician, psychologist or neurologist is required.
Reports are returned to the referring phsycian within 2 business days (total process averages 1 week)
The Intro Consultation:
The Intro Consult came about after talking with so many families who said they just wanted some basic information and guidance on WHAT these therapy options are. ABA, OT, ST - so many acronyms and medical language can be unnecessarily confusing.
This option provides...
general info about various therapies
brief explanation about what you should expect from these therapies
access to printables with information about ABA, OT and speech all in one place
This is not a child specific service
The Individualized Consultation:
This service was developed to fit the needs of so many families who already have a diagnosis but were craving more indivdiualized support.
They were looking for guidance on...
therapy options (detailed explanations of services and how each could support their child specifically)
support reviewing confusing documentation
having specific questions answered about their child's behaviors and current skill levels
support with developing and maintaining home behavior goals
As always Shine continues to offer ADOS-2 evaluations and professional development trainings.
One of my favorite things about starting my own practice has been the ability to ebb and flow and provide alternative services to families as the needs arise. So even if these don't seem like the exact fit you need, please don't hesitate to reach out! A word from some of our families:
"Anna was very upfront and clear. She described exactly what I needed at this point in our journey" - Leila M.
"Anna was both compassionate and knowledgeable. She walked me through the steps to get an evaluation for my child." - Erin L.
"She exudes compassion and I could tell she genuinely cares for my child’s wellbeing as well as my own. She was supportive through every step." - Munar I
